Choosing the Right Industrial Batteries

Choosing the right industrial batteries can be a lot more involved than selecting standard batteries.  The power needs for industrial applications will be very different so making the right choice becomes much more important.

What’s most important in industrial batteries?

Industry is more focused on the durability and the reliability of the battery, rather than the appearance or size. This is why the industrial batteries are still rather bulky; they are built to offer a longer service life.
The design of a battery is created so that it can effectively convert the active materials that are enclosed into a different state as it is discharged.  The electro-chemical devices are built to provide the necessary energy level required to complete the task assigned to them. A certain battery will have different load characteristics depending on the conversion speed.

There are different discharge load speeds in different batteries.  A battery can provide a steady stream of low amounts of current, intermittent blasts of high energy current or sharp bursts of current. The capabilities of the battery will depend on the type of flow that is created.  The flow will also determine which atmosphere the battery will be best suited to be operated in.

Industrial batteries and temperature concerns

As you make your selection be sure that you have considered the climate that your battery will primarily be stored and used in.  You may need to find a battery that will withstand the conditions of severe cold or severe heat.  Be sure that you choose industrial batteries that can produce, at a minimum, fifty amps if you are going to use them in extreme conditions, so that they will still be effective.

Other considerations when choosing industrial batteries

The frequency that you will be using your batteries should also be taken into consideration.

  • If your industrial batteries will be kept on standby for the majority of the time then you will want batteries that do not need to be charged frequently.
  • Sealed lead-acid batteries are the best choice in this instance.
  • They do not have high self discharge and you can leave them at standby for long periods of time without having to recharge them.

industrial batteries for emergency vehiclesThe medical field tends to rely heavily on sealed lead-acid batteries.  While they are fairly large and can be bulky in size, they work well in machinery that is left for emergency use only.  When a patient's condition worsens to the point that emergency care needs to be administered, the medical staff depends on the equipment to have a full charge on the battery.  These batteries are designed to produce irregular spurts of high current energy.  This would not be the right choice if the need was for a steady flow of high energy.

Making sure you have carefully considered your requirements will help ensure that you choose the right industrial batteries for the job.
