Battery regeneration (Battery Rebuild) is a unique and innovative process, designed to restore lost capacity and extend the functional life span of lead-acid batteries. The battery regeneration process is best described as electrochemical sulphate reversion.
A simplified explanation of the sulphation process
When a battery’s energy / charge is drained and recharged during normal working cycles, sulphate crystals gradually build up on the electrodes, preventing the battery from effectively delivering current. Sulphate build-up inhibits the electrochemical reaction that produces current and causes poor current acceptance, storage and delivery, overheating, dehydration, short circuit, mechanical damage and eventually results in PREMATURE FAILURE.
Battery Regeneration Process
The Battery Regeneration process reverts the lead sulphate into active material (no acid topping required). The regenerated surface of the electrodes (plates) allows the battery to accept, store, and deliver current normally. Battery Regeneration – What For?
Powercell’s Battery Regeneration process is designed for:
- Older batteries that are operating well below their optimum level and will extend the operational life.
- Batteries that have been standing causing heavy sulphation.
- Battery Regeneration can even be used to revive batteries that will not accept normal charging.
An average regeneration process takes 72 hours.

Customer Example 1
Our customer had a fleet of 7 trucks that were around 4 - 6 years old and had not been heavily used. The trucks were 2 counter balance trucks, 2 reach trucks and 3 powered pallet trucks. We arranged for each of the batteries to be returned to our workshops for full a Regeneration program. To make sure the customer was able to continue with their daily process, rental batteries from our stock were used for the counter balance and reach trucks. All of the batteries after the Regeneration process recovered to above 76% of the brand new capacity. Giving well in excess of 4 hours for even the oldest of the batteries and nearly the full 5 hours on the newest battery. The customers fleet is now working at full capacity gain with power in his batteries to spare without having to buy new batteries, all at a fraction of the cost of new batteries.
Customer Example 2
Our customer a fork truck company was looking to keep his customer towards the end of the contract hire on the 11 forklifts and extend the existing contract hire. As building into the extended contract new batteries would increase the price to his customer, Regeneration allowed for the fork truck company to extend the contract for a further 2 years keeping their cost much lower. The fork truck company in extending the existing contract hire, managed to keep the prices below any competition fork truck companies trying to gain the customer.
